A product of the Zerocoin cryptographic protocol, ZCoin is a cryptocurrency that uses a proof-of-work system. Zerocoin's purpose was to establish true anonymity in any Bitcoin transaction through a process whereby a given coin is destroyed, and then re-minted in order to erase the coin's past history.
Zerocoin was founded by Johns Hopkins University professor, Matthew D. Green in 2013. The cryptocurrency became fully functional in 2016.
